Godmanchester Cambridgeshire Community Association Online
7.30 PM AT THE QUEEN ELIZABETH SCHOOL, SCHOOL HILL , GODMANCHESTER
(opposite the Town Hall)
The 2012 COMMITTEE is a coming together of Gumcestrians from various backgrounds and groups with a view to organizing activities and projects to commemorate Godmanchesters 800 years as 'FREE TENANTS' granted to us by King John's charter in 1212.
Origionaly called together in 2008 by the Town Council to look into the feasabilty of commemmorating this historic event it was subsequently taken under the wing of the Community Association for accounting and organizational reasons.
A 'TOWN SIGN' has been designed and is awaiting planning approval for erection next to the river on the causeway.
'HISTORIC RECORD SIGNS' are to be placed at strategic points around Godmanchester and are being worked on.
A major ' LIVING HISTORY' event is being planned for the recreation ground as a long weekend prior to the annual 'GALAWEEK' and 'PICNIC IN THE PARK'
A 'WRITING COMPETITION' is in the mix along with a new publication 'A HISTORY OF GODMANCHESTER' by historian Ken Sneath ( from Cavemen to Community Association )
Helping hands are always needed for the various sub committees and an army of volunteers will be needed for the LIVING HISTORY EVENT to cover 'stewarding' Parking ' etc. Even if you cant make the meetings by 'VOLUNTEERING TO HELP PHYSICALY FOR AN HOUR OR TWO IN 2012 WOULD BE A GREAT HELP.
